Date: 2005-10-05 03:34 am (UTC)Help!
Date: 2006-01-04 03:56 pm (UTC)I'm new to Live Journal and I'm afraid there are a lot of things I don't understand. I would like to use some of your artistic icons from your website as my userpics, but I'm not sure about a few things....
I don't know what you mean by "Don't Repost Without Permission" or "Do Not Hotlink". My daughter showed me how I could upload one of your icons as my userpic using the URL from the one I want to use at your website, and inserting it in the"From URL:" box. Is this OK? If not, how do I do it? By the way, your "tutorial: crediting icons" is very helpful.
I also don't know how to tell you which icons I "take" from your website.
I tried sending you an email (not using the email form that popped up, but sending it thru the yahoo account I had set up) and it just came flying right back at me...from MAILER-DAEMON@ ns7.dnsserve.com?? I've tried sending it a second time, but thought I'd comment here as well. I hope that's OK.
Thanks.

Re: Help!
Date: 2006-01-04 04:14 pm (UTC)If you like an icon someone's made, please right click on the one you like and choose save image as from the menu - put it somewhere on your computer so you can find it (the desktop's usually good) and then use that form your daughter showed you to browse for the image on your computer (using the From File option, not the URl option). Hotlinking is severely frowned upon, so always save the image to your computer first and then upload the image into LJ from your PC. All I ask is that a_gal_icons appears in the keywords part if I made the icons.
Don't Repost Without Permission = Don't put on your site and pretend that you made them
Do Not Hotlink = As I explained above. Anything from my site you want to use should be saved onto your hard drive and used from your computer, not from my site. "Hotlinking" will drain my site so that it crashes and I will have to take it down. Also, if I start renaming things on my site your image may disappear. So it's best to save onto your own computer and upload your icons from your computer, not using a URL.
I hope that makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll try to clarify.

Thanks again,

Re: Help!
Date: 2006-01-04 04:27 pm (UTC)To get started with icon uploading, download all the icons you want to use. Then in LJ, go to the Manage link, then to Userpics. The form you need is at the bottom. Just use the Browse button next to the From File box so you can search your PC for the pictures you saved. In the keywords area type what you want to refer to the icon as when using them, then in the comments section type < lj user = "a_gal_icons" > (without the spaces).
Only use the From URL option if the picture is on your own web site.
